Top Bloggers with Books

August 19, 2010

Would you lay on the beach and read your favorite blogs while on vacation?  Without an iPad, it wouldn’t be easy; but a book is simple to throw in your beach bag and curl up with on a lazy afternoon.

Top bloggers who have consistently shown they have something interesting and/or valuable to share with you will sometimes compile their best work or share their insights by publishing a book.  Here’s a list of top bloggers and their books in the areas of personal finance, business, personal development, and parenting.

Some of these bloggers have actually published multiple books but we’ve only listed one, either their most recent or best known book.  It’s no small feat to publish a book so congrats to this list of smart and determined authors!

If you know a blogger with a book you’d recommend you can submit it to the list with the form at the bottom (it’s okay to submit your own book).  Go ahead, check out what they’ve written and see if anything tickles your fancy.

In response to Gabi, my book, “Everything I Need to Know About Motherhood I Learned from Animal House,” was actually created because of my blog and newspaper column. It’s a compilation of humorous essays on parenting, a la Erma Bombeck.

At this time, I have friends with offers on their books, but the publishers want them to have a platform before the book launches, which makes sense. So now, they’re creating blogs and social media pages to build that platform.

I does beg the question, “Which came first? The blogger or the author?” The answer appears to come on a case-by-case basis.

Anyway, I’m excited to be included in this list! xoxo

Thanks to everyone who’s submitted new blogs to the list! I’m in the middle of moving so it may be a few days before the list gets updated.

Thank you for including me in your list!

In reply to Gabi’s statement, I’m pretty sure Pam and Ramit both started their blogs before having any intention (or at least specific plans) to write a book. They each were blogging for years before their respective books came around.

*Note to self: Build successful website, land a book deal, kaching-kaching!!

I’m glad bloggers are out there and making good money from book deals. It would be a daunting challenge for anybody to write a book, much less getting a book deal.

  • Gabi

It’s interesting to note how many of these authors started their blogs *because* of their books. I believe Pamela Slim, Tim Ferriss, and Ramit Sethi all fall into that category.

Then there are bloggers like Chris Guillebeau at Art of Non-Conformity who started their blogs with the express goal of landing a book deal.

It seems that no matter how much people say traditional media is dead, is it still very closely tied to new media. Because who would want to get sand on their iPad, anyway? 🙂

Thanks Ben! I’m very honored to be included on your list.
    Have a great day!
