Personal Finance Review – Invasion of the Ants Edition

August 26, 2007

Our kitchen is being invaded by ants!  We’ve had a few ants here and there in summers past but over the last week they’ve shown up in full force.  Last weekend I bought some insect spray at Home Depot and sprayed around the outside of the house but it doesn’t seem like it’s done much good.

Rather than diminishing they seem to be spreading to more areas in the kitchen.  We’ve never had anyone come spray for bugs before but are going to look into it.  Any suggestions on how to handle the ants or some good companies to use?  Anyhow, while I’m fighting ants, you can enjoy some money articles from last week.

Thanks Jeremy, I’ll give Terro a try.

Scott, I hate paying money for an exterminator but it might be worth it. I guess I can swing $75 if it will keep away the swarming ants.

I would call an exterminator. Probably be about $75. Don’t fall for their service plan deals though where they want to come out every 3 months, seems like a rip off in that each spraying should last a year.

Get the little glass bottle of it where you put a few drops on a piece of cardboard, and it will get rid of them better than any spray.

Actually, the really old and now illegal form of Terro works the best. My grandma gave us some a long time ago and we still use it, works like a charm.

Of course, if they are carpenter ants, I don’t think that stuff works. We had some ant problems earlier this year and a few discretely placed drops of terro got rid of them all in about a week.
