		<description>You missed the biggest tax benefit of Roth IRA: You only pay tax on the contributions. With a Traditional IRA, you don&#039;t pay tax now, but you pay tax on your contribution AND ALL EARNINGS upon withdrawal during retirement. With a Roth IRA, you pay tax now, but you get to withdraw your contributions AND ALL EARNINGS tax free at retirement. I think we&#039;d all like to believe our accounts will be much larger at retirement than they are now. It&#039;s an extremely important difference, especially if retirement is still a long way off.
Plus, you can withdraw any principal you&#039;ve paid in prior to retirement (in an emergency - it&#039;s not generally a good idea) without a penalty.</description>
