Download a Free Copy of Quickbooks Simple Start 2008
October 19, 2007
Intuit is giving away free copies of Quickbooks Simple Start 2008 as part of their promotion to get people to start their own business.
Prior to the promotion, Quickbooks Simple Start used to sell for $99.95, if only I’d have known about this before spending hundreds on QuickBooks Pro Edition on eBay!

[...] Remember it’s a competition, being judged by Anita Campbell, John Jantsch, and Ramon Ray so make a convincing argument. The grand prize is valued at $50K and two other people will win $5K each. The deadline for entries is December 15, 2007 and the winner will be announced on February 10, 2008. Even if you don’t have the time to enter, you can always sign up for a free copy of Quickbooks Simple Start 2008. [...]
Thanks
Hmm. I read the Terms & Agreements of the “Free Quickbooks” and it makes me pause …
As usual, there are always strings attached to “free”.
From their T&C page:
“Monthly Service fees will commence 14 days from the date of this purchase, and will be billed monthly thereafter.
After the 14 day trial you will be billed $49.90 monthly for the continued service of the website, website software and for the membership to the TradeWorks product club. ”
No, you’re not getting a copy of Quickbooks Simple for free – you are signing up for a monthly service that costs $49.90 per month. And after reading another statement from their T&C page, you may not get the free software anyway …
“With every approved IMS merchant account you will receive a copy of QuickBooks Simple Start Edition 2007 at no charge. ”
If you don’t qualify for their merchant account, you won’t get the free software anyway. And you’ll still be signed up for the $49.90 per month …
Always read the small print before you sign up for something.
FYI – Intuit isn’t giving it away. The company with the site is Pacific WebWorks which is not part of Intuit, the company that owns & sells Quickbooks.
Also, the version they list that they are “giving away” is 2007, not 2008. That probably makes no difference, but let’s at least be accurate.
