Lingo VOIP Phone Service Review – Free Month Trial, Linksys Adapter, & Activation

October 25, 2008

Lingo VOIP free trial

Lingo digital phone service is offering the first month of service free, a free Linksys Adapter, and no activation charge if you signup for Lingo VOIP phone service by the end of the month.

Lingo was chosen as the best digital phone service provider a while back by Wired Magazine.  They reviewed all the major VOIP phone providers like vongae, Skype, Verizon VoiceWing, Comcast Digital Voice, AT&T CallVantage, and Packet8 and gave Lingo the Editor’s pick.  Here’s what Wired had to say about Lingo:

Looking for a bargain? Lingo’s low monthly fee covers unlimited calling to the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and more than 20 other countries, including Australia and most of western Europe. Although we initially encountered an annoying echo with overseas connections, after contacting the company for help, the problem went away. Domestic calls were superb, soundwise.

Most inexpensive plan. Tidy online account manager. No hold time for tech support. Optional mobile plan lets you save big bucks when making international calls on your cell phone. (First dial a designated number to connect with Lingo, then make your international call.)

I wish I would have known about Lingo when I was looking for the best way to make cheap international calls.  I still call Canada quite a bit so I’m going to sign up for Lingo and give it a try.

Lingo Features

Lingo has a variety of calling plans, I’ll probaby go with the Chatterbox plan since it offers unlimited local and long distance calling in the US and includes Canada as one of the 22 other countries you can make unlimited international calls to.  Although I only need Canada, Lingo also offers coverage around Europe to places like England, Germany, France, and Italy; as well as calls really far east to New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, & South Korea.

Compared to the other VOIP providers Lingo still seems to be the cheapest option and comes with all the standard features we’ve come to expect from a digital phone service like voicemail, call forwarding, call waiting, return call, caller ID, 411, and 911 dialing.

Lingo Free Trial

The features, free trial, and the fact you can keep your existing phone number are enough reasons for me to give it a try. The promotion is over at the end of this month so if you’re interested,  click here to sign up for the free trial; you can use the promotion code of CDFMA or OCTFM  if it asks for one.
