HSBC Weekend Credit Card Review
True to its name, the HSBC Weekend Card lets you get more cash back for weekend purchases. Cardholders will receive 2% cash back on purchases made on the weekends, with 1% cash back on purchases made throughout the week. There’s no limit to the amount of rebates a cardholder can build up, whether it’s for weekend or weekday purchases.
Low APR: One of the major selling points of the HSBC Weekend Card is that it has a low APR. However, that is only the case for cardholders with good credit. People with lower credit may be offered a different type of HSBC credit card or a Weekend Card with a higher APR. Either way, cardholders will not have to pay an annual fee.
Unique Rewards Program: Many other cards only offer 2% rewards after a minimum amount is spent on the card: sometimes $3000 or even higher. With the HSBC Weekend Card, cardholders are guaranteed a high cashback rate two days out of every week, or around 100 days a year. Smart cardholders will wait to make expensive payments on the weekend. This has a two-pronged effect: better cash back, as well as ensuring that cardholders do not overuse credit during the week.
Other Benefits: As with other MasterCard’s, the HSBC Weekend Card has built in benefits, such as car rental insurance, purchase protection, travel and emergency assistance, internet-based account services, and emergency card replacement.
The Verdict: The HSBC Weekend Card is one of the most unique cash back rewards cards out there. It is most recommended to those who can time their credit card purchases, rather than those who use credit cards on a daily basis. Even those who use credit cards a lot can add this card to the arsenal and whip it out whenever it’s time to do some weekend shopping. Combined with the low APR, it is an attractive rewards card with a generous payback rate.
