MyCorporation Business Incorporation Service – The Inside Scoop
December 31, 2008
Deborah Sweeney, the General Manager of MyCorporation, Intuit Small Business Web agreed to give us the inside scoop and answer a few questions about forming a business, choosing a business entity, challenges of forming a business, and the various services that MyCorporation offers entrepreneurs.
How is using MyCorporation to form a business different than working with an attorney?
MyCorporation files the corporate documents with the secretary of state. While MyCorporation does not provide legal or financial advice, we do have tools that can help a customer make the decision on entity type.
We also find that many customers consult with lawyers and/or accountants prior to using the services of MyCorporation so that the customer has the information needed to make the right decision about entity formation. MyCorporation, which now offers free incorporations & LLCs is certainly a lot less expensive than a lawyer.
What information do you offer on choosing a type of business entity (corporation vs LLCs, etc)
MyCorporation offers extensive resources on entity types. We offer a learning center with an entity decision tool, comparison charts, and a free incorporation guide to help understand the differences between entity types. We also can provide information regarding state fees and filing times so that the customer understands the fees and time required to get documents filed with the secretary of state.
What do entrepreneurs get when they signup for your incorporation service?
MyCorporation provides the incorporation or LLC filing service for free. With the free service, entrepreneurs will receive their articles of incorporation or articles of organization with a corporate package. The corporate package includes a CD explaining the materials in the package, sample bylaws or operating agreement, sample minutes, and stock/membership certificates. In addition, MyCorporation offers entrepreneurs a free copy of Quickbooks Simple Start with every order.
What’s been the biggest challenge for your customers with business formation and how have you addressed it?
The biggest challenge for customers who form a new corporation or LLC is how to maintain the entity. Entrepreneurs are focused on their business and they often don’t want to worry about what they need to do to maintain their corporation or LLC.
We’ve developed an offering called MyIncGuard, which provides new entrepreneurs with reminders about deadlines such as tax due dates, annual report filing requirements, and end-of-year deadlines. The MyIncGuard product also provides customers with sample corporate documents (Employer/Employee agreements, Consulting agreements, Notices & Waivers of Meeting documents), in addition to a free Nolo book about starting a new business.
What’s the best feedback you’ve received about your incorporation service?
Customers love that we’re a 1-stop shop, and that we’re affiliated with a trusted company like Intuit. Many of our customers were unaware of an offering like that of MyCorporation, and they’re thrilled that they don’t have to pay high attorney fees, as well as delighted that they don’t have to figure it out themselves. Now that we’re offering free incorporations & LLCs to give back to the small business community, customers are beyond happy.
What other services does MyCorporation offer for entrepreneurs?
MyCorporation offers many other business filing services. MyCorporation can help entrepreneurs file for protection of their trademarks and copyrights. We can also file all annual filings required of a corporation or LLC, including amendments and annual reports. We’ll obtain an EIN, file for s-corp election and serve as an entity’s registered agent. We’ll even work with entrepreneurs to register their DBAs and, should the need arise, file dissolutions to dissolve an entity that is no longer in business. Beyond that, we offer many free Intuit products, which is an added value for MyCorporation’s customers.
Thanks to Deborah for taking the time to answer our questions and thanks to MyCorporation for helping small businesses by offering offering free online incorporation services.
Incorporate Online – LLC Setup & Business Incorporation for Small Businesses
November 25, 2008
Incorporating a business online, whether it’s forming an LLC or creating an S corporation, is something anyone starting a business can do with the help of services like MyCorporation.
Updated – MyCorporation is waiving the normal service fee of $149 to form a new Corporation or Limited Liability Company. This is a limited time offer. Use coupon code MYFREE and click here to place your order online.
A division of Intuit, MyCorporation, makes it easier to incorporate a business, set up trademarks, or maintain an existing incorporated business. Rather than working directly with a lawyer to form a company or handle business filings, small business owners can leverage the teams of lawyers at MyCorporation. The service is certainly cheaper than the hourly rate for a lawyer and makes it easy to incorporate a business or trademark a product without suffering through the legalese and paperwork alone.
Cost of Incorporating a Business
MyCorporation’s incorporation services start at $149, which is less than the hourly bill rate of many lawyers. Trademark services start at $159, which again is highly competitive. The benefits for both trademarks and incorporation are similar. Copyright protection and liability protection are enormously important for the future viability of a business. Choosing a business name and building a formal brand identity with your company name help establish your place in the market.
Occasionally they will run promotions where you can save up to $50 off the cost of starting your business, so keep your eyes on the website. You may want to sign up for their news letter for special offers and business management tips.
The MyCorporation Process
Don’t confuse using a website for incorporation or trademarks as a totally automated process. What makes MyCorporation useful is that your account is handled by a team of experts, not by an automated system. In a sense, this is like getting the full-fledged treatment of working with a lawyer, but in a much more streamlined process.
The team helps you determine if you want to incorporate or form an LLC. They explain the benefits of the various types of business entities and have some good tools for comparing C-Corporations, S-Corporations, Limited Liability Companies (LLC’s), and Sole Proprietorships.
Similarly, the MyCorporation experts can explain the trademark process. From there, the team files every report with the correct agencies – wherever you may live. This is vitally important, as each state will have differing business documents and rules about registering a business. It must also mentioned that there are differing fees for each state as well, and this will be added to MyCorporation’s base fee. The MyCorporation team handles both documentation and interaction with varying state agencies, leaving much of the negotiation out of your hands.
How Long to Incorporate?
Normally incorporation this take between two weeks and forty days, depending on the state. MyCorporation’s rush service will have the paperwork filed and delivered in twenty five days or less. The trademark process takes around a year to complete.
Incorporation Customer Service
Customer service is a major focus throughout the business setup process, MyCorporation works closely with you to make sure your questions are answered and needs are met. Not only will you need information from the people assigned to your account, but you’ll probably need questions answered along the way about the process. Again, a lawyer typically charges money just for this type of consultation, so the ability to pay a flat fee at MyCorporation while getting similar results is a major selling point of the service.
